Blue Ventures is a marine conservation NGO, working to improve the livelihoods of coastal communities in Madagascar. Their community health programme, Safidy, aims to increase access to health services and advocates for reproductive rights. In the context of their health education and outreach efforts, Blue Ventures developed a participatory game for local communities.
The goal of the decision-making game was to demonstrate - in a relatable way - how various choices may impact one’s sexual and reproductive health. The stories, created “live”, directly by the audience, then lead to conversations about the how decisions are taken, what are the different options one has and how one can navigate towards healthy outcomes.
Déroulé de la prestation: Sango was in contact with the Community Health Programme Coordinator and developed the images together, reflecting life and important areas of coastal communities.
Challenges overcome: The challenge was to find a way to present the entire story on some sort of a board, that resists extreme weather conditions in coastal areas of Madagascar where it would be used. Finally we decided for a waxed canvas, with metal holes in the four corner. The images could be fitted on it using the small cuts in the poster.
Outcome: Both the story-cards (27) and the poster were welcomed with enthusiasm by the focus group Blue Ventures tested them with.
